    1. My top choice for research among all of the presented topics from today is the characterization of MOX fuels using laser ablation analysis. I'll be looking into some of the relevant scientific literature to help give me some preliminary knowledge and direction, especially when it comes to optimizing the laser ablation process.

For anyone who is using Scopus to search for scientific papers, there is an app that you can download to help you search for and save articles. You can also set up alerts for any new papers that are published which correspond to the key words from your search. Seems like a pretty useful app.

  2. I sent Vanessa an email about technetium compounds research but haven't heard back yet. Is there somebody else working on the project I could contact?

  3. I'd like to try Neptunium hydrothermal rxns, as mentioned previously. My overarching goal is to produce single crystals of low-valent Neptunium compounds, and initially I'd be interested in running several reactions with a variety of different reducing agents to see which produces the best crystals (perhaps LiAlH4, SnCl2, hydrazine, sodium amalgam, etc.). Seeing as hydrogen gas is one of the best reducing agents in the presence of nonmetals, could we maybe throw a nonmetal in there to see if we get a neptunium reduction?

  5. Honestly all of the projects sound cool. I am most interested in the electro chem project followed by the synthesis of uranium mononitride
